Privacy Policy for Transcriber
Last updated: October 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Transcriber ("the Application", "we", "us", or "our"), developed by independent developer Mirko Dimartino, collects, uses, and safeguards information when you use our Android application.
We are committed to respecting your privacy and adhering to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Google Play Store Developer Policies.
1. Information We Process and How We Use It
a. Audio Files and Transcriptions (Core Functionality)
To provide its primary service, Transcriber processes audio files shared from third-party messaging apps to generate text transcripts.
- Wit.ai Integration & Anonymization: The speech-to-text processing is not performed locally. The audio files you choose to transcribe are securely transmitted to Wit.ai services (provided by Meta Platforms, Inc.) for transcription. Before transmission, audio files undergo a voice anonymization process.
- No Account Tracking: The Application does not require you to create a user account. Therefore, any audio file processed by Wit.ai is completely anonymous and cannot be linked back to you (no "user-audio" tracking).
- No Developer Storage: While your audio is transmitted to Wit.ai for processing, we (the Developer) never collect, store, or transmit your personal audio files or the resulting text transcripts to our personal servers. Once the transcription is completed and displayed on your device, the Application does not retain the original media.
b. In-App Purchases and Subscription Data
In-app billing and subscription lifecycles are processed directly via the Google Play In-App Billing API.
- We do not store or have access to your credit card numbers, bank details, or direct payment data.
- The Application queries Google Play's inventory locally to verify whether you hold an active Premium license.
2. Third-Party Services
The Application utilizes third-party SDKs and APIs to provide its core functionality, ensure stability, and for monetization:
- Wit.ai (Speech-to-Text): Used to convert your audio messages into text. Audio data is sent to their servers for processing. For more information, please review the Wit.ai Privacy Policy.
- Google Play Services / Google Play In-App Billing: For handling store licensing, in-app purchases, and in-app review prompts. (Google Privacy Policy)
- Google AdMob: If you use the ad-supported version of the Application, advertising networks (e.g., Google AdMob) may collect pseudonymous identifiers (such as the Android Advertising ID) and crash logs to serve compliant advertisements. Premium users do not receive third-party ads. AdMob is an advertising service provided by Google LLC or by Google Ireland Limited, depending on the location this Application is accessed from.
